One simple ingredient delivering major benefits

Posted in Industry News

Drink Technology India 23rd – 25th October 2024 – At Drink Technology 2024, carbonated soft drinks manufacturers are being invited to arrange a taste trial to see how just one extra ingredient from British ‘fizzicists’ CO2Sustain could make huge differences to their brand and their profitability.

Here’s how manufacturers can tackle their most pressing challenges:

Enhance the consumer experience
A great beverage experience is probably the most significant driver of brand loyalty and therefore also of market share, the ultimate goal for drinks manufacturers. CO2Sustain can help build market share by making a fizzy drink more enjoyable than ever – all the way from pouring it out to the very last sip:

  • There’s less foaming on pouring, therefore the CO2 stays in the drink instead of being lost to the atmosphere
  • The bubbles feel more sparkly with added tingle and bite
  • The drink remains significantly fizzier for significantly longer.

Extend shelf life
That CO2 seepage also reduces shelf life. But when CO2Sustain is added, there’s less carbonation loss on pouring (even when using lighter PET), so drinks can stay in the bottle for longer. In fact, CO2Sustain’s in-house tests indicate that manufacturers and retailers can benefit from up to 2 extra months on the shelf.

Get more from CO2 gas
CO2Sustain can make a big difference in how CO2 is used. The added ingredient stops wasteful foaming on pouring, and the fizz is retained for longer. This means that manufacturers can choose to use less CO2 to achieve the same sensory profile. This in turn means that current CO2 stocks will go further, lasting longer OR manufacturers can use the same amount of CO2 gas and make approximately 12% for drinks again with no impact on sensory profile.

Contribute to net zero
By using CO2Sustain to reduce CO2 usage by 1 gram per litre, manufacturers can make a significant contribution to net zero. Last year, around 215 billion litres of carbonated soft drinks were produce – by adding CO2Sustain to each one, the industry could have cut CO2 requirements by 215 billion grams while delivering the same consumer taste experience.

Use lighter-weight PET
Soft drinks manufacturers are keen to use less plastic in their packaging, but lighter plastic leads to more CO2 seepage through the bottle walls. Adding CO2Sustain allows manufacturers to switch to a lighter PET without compromising on the taste experience. Plus, CO2Sustain delivers better bubbles – and this enhanced carbonation enables lighter plastic to be used. The result is reduced use of plastics, less waste in the supply chain, and energy savings because each production run can deliver more bottles.

Any manufacturers interested in a taste test with their own beverages are invited to come and talk to the CO2Sustain team on Stand C57 in Hall 1 at Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai. Taste trials are easy to do, either by the manufacturer themselves or by CO2Sustain fizzicists in their own lab. Once manufacturer have seen the results for themselves, they can set up a trial production run at their own facility.
